Getting Your Site Out There
Once you publish your new website, the next thing you need to do is advertise your site to drive more traffic back to you. A common way users find your website, is just by doing a simple search in Google, or another search engine. But how do search engines find your site? Every time a search engine crawls through a website, it follows every link on every page. If there is a link back to your website on someone else's page, the search engine follows that link and indexes your site. The more sites that link back to your website, the more times the search engines index your site, and the higher your ranking.
So how do get other sites to link back to you?
- Start a blog, and update frequently. The goal is to get current users of your website to come back again and again. If a user finds your blog interesting, they will start submitting it to other blogs and news sites on their own.
- Publish your blog on other blogs, and news sites. Read blogs and news sites in your field every day. When you write a blog on your own website, publish it to those blogs. You will reach more users, and the search engines will be able to find your site more frequently.
- Publish an RSS feed. RSS feeds allow users to subscribe to your blog, and receive updates whenever you post a new entry. Other web sites can also subscribe to your RSS feed, and include your blog on their own website, pushing links to your website out to a much wider audience.
